October 20 Staging

The permits are completed, and Waterfront Engineering is ready to go. The truck arrived early this morning carrying a huge load of wall panels for the seawall. A bobcat then unloaded the bundles of 10 foot by 2 foot wall panels, and scattered them along Sunset Point.
Residents are urged to stay away from the construction areas, but its OK to watch from afar. The walls will go up at the Point and work their way to the homes on Blvd. 15. Not quite sure yet what's happening after that. Stay tuned.

September Seawall Updates

No crowd enjoyed the setting sun on Sunset Point tonight, on this last evening of September. A few diehards hang out under the pavillion. The area is staged for the setting of bricks to replace the recently removed sidewalk.

The photo below ( Sept. 10) shows the saturation of the fill.

Tonight it is dry and well packed with sand over the crushed concrete. (below)

Seawall Day 1 *UPDATE*

Tired of waiting for the storms to pass, the guys from Waterfront Engineering came out today to start dismantling the seawall cap out on Sunset Point. Because it is now a construction site, please avoid the area.

UPDATE Sept 5.....

Pictures were slow to download yesterday, so today two are available. You can see the cap is being removed on the north end of Sunset Point. Painted sections will be removed from Bay waters, the rubble will remain as the base of the new rip rap. This section is not getting a new seawall, just a new cap, and loads of rip rap to secure the existing wall.

Unfortunately, once some of the cap was removed, small sections of the sidewalk started falling in. As anticipated, there is little fill left under the existing sidewalk, and even under the asphalt behind the curb, several feet back.

Huge gaps exist under the sidewalks and asphalt roadway at the turnaround at the Point. All residents are strongly urged to stay away from the Point and the turnaround area. Someone predicted that this article will only entice residents out to the Point. Please don't go out there, for fear of a collapse while the Point is compromised during construction.

Watch for updates after the storms pass.

Seawall Due to Begin

With a thunderous bang, the storage unit for construction equiptment was dropped into place this morning in the parking area off Sunset Point. Jan, the co-owner of Waterfront Engineering is hoping to keep unsightly construction mess hidden.
Still waiting for the permits to clear Tampa's control, the company has decided to begin work on the two points, Sunset and Pelican. These areas don't require permits, Jan said. Expect work to begin after the holiday on Monday.
